ELEN ap ROBERT (soprano), PAUL WHELAN (bass-baritone) and RONA JONU (piano)

Don't miss this concert! Paul Whelan won the Lieder Prize in the 1993 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, and those of you who saw and heard him then will need no further inducement. He sang a stunning Elien in Bangor in December 1991. Elen ap Robert (now of Y Felinheli) is no stranger to viewers of S4C, and sang in Dolgellau in 1987. The two have frequently performed duets together. Rona Jones is a well-known accompanist at the Llangollen Eisteddtod and other North Wales eisteddfodau.<par>

José Maria Pairs Mas is a young pianist from Albacete in Spain, who trained at the Royal Conservatory in Madrid and completed his studies at the Royal Academy in London. In 1992 he wan amongst others the Walter Macfarren Prize, the Academy's highest for piano performance. He has already won a following through his un-affected and exuberant approach to the music he plays. In Dolgellau José will, of course, be including pieces by Spanish composers in his programme.

ANDREW WBETTAM (percussion)

Outstanding performers such as Evelyn Glennie have helped make tuned percuss-ion acceptable and popular as a recital instrinnent in recent times, and Andrew -son of the composer Graham Whettaxn - is now one of the leading exponents of the medium. His entertaining programme will introduce an unusual variety of instruments, including marimbas. vibraphones, congas and other assorted drums and cymbals. This solo recital was recently heard to great acclaim in RhyL It is hoped that an educational workshop will also be arranged during the day.

11 March, 1994
ALTKEA IFEKA (oboe) and HOWARD BEACH (harpsichord)

25 March, 1994
LOUISE JONES (violin) and JOHN MCHUGH (guitar)

Louise Jones is by now a familiar face and sound on HTV's 'Primetime, and has made frequent appearances in Wales since her first recording for Sam Records in 1991. Her recital in Machynlleth in November 1992 received a standing ovation. The unusual and delightful blend of violin and guitar, and the two musicians' extrovert but sensitive style, should ensure an exciting close to the Music Club season. The programme will include Villa-Lobos guitar preludes, unaccompanied Bach for violin, and an arrangement of Schubert's 'Axpeggione' Sonata.
Sponsored by A. & M. Hughes, Penbiyn Garage, and Ivy House. Finsbuxy Square, Dolgellau
